In a recent interview with BBC Radio, teen star Demi Lovato opened up about how her life has changed after entering rehab in late 2010 for an eating and cutting disorder.

“There was a lot of embarrassment and a lot of shame. When I went into rehab I felt like a failure.” Demi explained.

“For everybody that told me growing up ‘oh you’re going to be successful – but don’t turn out like that one girl!’” Demi continued. “I felt like I had turned into that one girl.”

“I realize that by getting help, I wasn’t letting anybody down. I was actually gaining respect from people because making that decision was very hard, but ultimately would change my life.”

“I notice people do treat me differently.” Demi says on how things have changed since she left rehab. “The people that I work with, they’re more cautious of the work load that I have. I feel like I’m being treated more like a human being now. Before it was so easy to be treated like a product.”
