Zac Efron was recently spotted heading out to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for the big premiere of his new movie today (Thursday May 24). Zac’s movie The Paperboy premiered at the festival, which also stars Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘The Paperboy focuses on a reporter (McConaughey) and his brother (Efron) who investigate the events surrounding a murder in order to free a man on death row, portrayed by Cusack. Kidman plays woman with a dark side who writes letters to men in prison, and brings the case of Cusack’s inmate to the attention of the brothers.’
With the reviews from the movie flowing in, most are positive and praise Zac for his role in the movie.
THR wrote about Zac’s character Jack saying, “A college swimmer with great looks and a rippling body, Jack is a directionless, unformed young man and it’s the first big screen part Efron has handled with skill and conviction; he’s quite good in it.”
While The Guardian gave the film 4/5 stars, Zac chatted with The Associated Press about his new role.
One thing in particular Zac discussed was how his character spent the majority of the movie in his underwear. “I don’t think I was supposed to feel comfortable,” Zac told reporters in Cannes. “It’s like life. This character is supposed to be learning the ways of the world, and that can be very uncomfortable. But it’s also exciting.”
He also dished on how exciting it was to be able to work with Nicole on the movie. “I’ve been in love with her for a long time — since ‘Moulin Rouge,’” Efron said. “It was the loveliest time in the world for me.”
Sounds like quite the interesting film! Can’t wait to see it!
