Noah Cyrus on stepping out of sister Miley Cyrus’ Shadow: “I’m doing my thing, and Miley’s doing hers”

Noah Cyrus recently spoke with Billboard Magazine, where she opened up on her budding music career, her debut album and pop star sister Miley Cyrus.

After releasing her new single Stay Together last month, Noah hit the stage for her very first award show performance earlier this month during the MTV Movie & TV Awards (May 7). “I had so much fun, but I am not a dancer,” Noah said about her performance.

“It was the first time I worked with a choreographer, and I was out of my comfort zone. I’m still testing the waters a little bit every time I go onstage.”

Noah also spoke about sharing some personal details on her upcoming debut album, NC-17, which is slated to be released this fall.

“The one thing I’d like to get across about my album is how personal it is,” Noah said. “In the beginning of last year, I was going through a breakup while writing. But now, I’m not heartbroken anymore — it was for the best and I think a blessing in disguise.”

And while Noah may have a superstar for a sister, the 17-year-old still just wants to be known as Noah Cyrus:

“I’m doing my thing, and Miley’s doing hers,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to be my own person. Even when I was ‘Noah who rode horses,’ I wanted to be Noah Cyrus, not anyone else or a family member.”

However, there is one part of Miley that Noah wishes she had:

“I’ve been figuring out who I am as an artist,” she said. “If I could borrow anything from Miley, it would be her stage confidence. For me, that’s just going to come with time.”
