Chloe Moretz on Taking a Break from Movies: “I want to reassess who I am”

Posted on 1 min read 89 views

While attending Deauville Film Festival last week to accept the Rising Star Award, actress Chloe Moretz opened up on why she’s decided to take a break from making movies for the foreseeable future.

At only 19, Chloe has already starred in 55 films, and says she’s happy “people have been watching and it hasn’t been in vain.”

However, after working on back-to-back movies filming the thrillers November Criminals and Brain on Fire, Chloe reveals she: “had a ‘Come to Jesus’ moment” and decided to drop out of all her future film commitments.

According to Chloe, constantly working on films made her lose sight of why she wanted to act in the first place.

“So I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again,” she says. “I’m realizing that I can slow down.”

However, don’t expect Chloe to drop out of the entertainment business completely! The star will instead be channeling her energy onto the two TV shows she has been producing and will soon shop around to networks.

Chloe will soon be heading to Toronto, Canada, where she will be premiering Brain on Fire at the Toronto International Film Festival on Wednesday, September 14th.

Chloe Moretz Covers Glamour UK: “Feminism for me has always just been about equality”

Posted on 1 min read 78 views

Stylish star Chloe Moretz covers Glamour UK‘s September Fashion issue, where she dishes on her views on feminism, being an outspoken person, and boyfriend Brooklyn Beckham.

On Boyfriend Brooklyn Beckham:

“One of the reasons we’re dating him is great is that we both get what it means to have our live twisted and torn apart and faked.”

“Seriously, you don’t know how often I’m just described as ‘his girlfriend’. And you think: ‘well, I’ve also been acting for 13 years, but don’t worry’.”

Chloe Moretz Glamour UK

On Being Outspoken:

“‘Do you really want to stir the pot?’ I’d get asked early on. And once I’d thought about it, I decided that, yeah, actually, I do. Because that one person who speaks out ignites millions of other people to speak out…”

On Feminism and Hollywood’s Pay Gap:

“Feminism for me has always just been about equality: me being worth exactly the same as my male counterparts, but not more than them – unless what I do is of a higher equality.”

Posted on 2 min read 83 views

Actress Chloe Moretz is radiant in a bold red coat on the May 19th issue of Net-A-Porter magazine, where she dishes on her career, dating, and friends.

On Working:

“My mom says, ‘You’re young, don’t ride yourself that hard.’ She wants me to make less movies. But I’ve averaged three to four a year for the last six years now, and I get bored otherwise.”

Chloe Moretz for Net-A-Porter

On Working with her Mother and Brother on their Production Company:

“As an actor, I suppose [I’m the boss], but we’re on the same level on the producing side. I’m never bossy, though; it’s so unconducive to creativity.”

Chloe then jokes, “And anyway, it would never work out because I’m a girl. Girls can’t act that way in this business.”

On Living in Los Angeles:

“LA can be a hard place. There are a lot of temptations, which can take people down.”

On Her Friends:

“I’ve only got one real friend that I trust. But I’m cool with that. She’s totally normal, goes to college.”

On Dating as an Actor:

“They’ve seen you in sex scenes in movies, they know what you look like crying, and they can read your interviews and know your favorite bands so it feels like they have all this in common with you… Happens a lot. I’ll think, ‘How are we vibing so hard right now?’ Then I realize, and I don’t care anymore, I just go back to work.”

As she continues to promote her new movie Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising, actress Chloe Moretz dropped by The Late Late Show with James Cordon on Wednesday (May 11), where she sat down to chat about her four protective older brothers.

“They’re super protective,” Chloe said, “but I kind of like it.”

Now that she’s dating Brooklyn Beckham, Chloe revealed that her brothers have taken to texting Brooklyn:

“Now that I have a boyfriend, now they just correspond secretively. Like we were all at dinner the other night and I caught my boyfriend texting by brother, and I was like ‘What..what are you doing here? Why are you guys corresponding?'”

When asked what they were texting about, Chloe said: “I don’t know, I don’t know. Maybe they’re intimidating each other on text message.”

Chloe Moretz in Glamour: “My biggest thing now is making gender-equalizing movies”

Posted on 3 min read 112 views

Actress Chloe Moretz graces the new June 2016 issue of Glamour Magazine, where she opens up on her upcoming movie Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising, her internet feud with Kim Kardashian, and her views on feminism.

On Playing Rebellious Women On-Screen

:
Definitely. With movies like Kick-Ass, Carrie, and Let Me In, I was able to push boundaries at a really young age. … Now that I’m able to get projects funded, curate scripts, and make movies, it means a lot to me to go against gender norms. My biggest thing now is making gender-equalizing movies, where you can put a male actor or a female actor in that role, and it would work the same way.

On her Character Shelby in Neighbours: 2

Shelby’s a frat bro. She goes off the cuff. I like that, because I don’t think we [usually get to] see young women put into a position where they’re making rash decisions. When we do see young women bucking the system, we see them do it in a very educated sense. Instead of being poised…[Shelby] genuinely is kind of an idiot!

Chloe Moretz in Glamour June 2016

On Working with Zac Efron, Seth Rogan, Rose Byrne and Selena Gomez on the Film:

We were always pulling pranks on each other. They would find all these things that tick my clock—certain people out there really push my buttons—and send me articles and pictures.

Chloe Moretz in Glamour June 2016

On her “Feud” with Kim Kardashian:

I had just gotten off a plane from South Korea, I was incredibly jet-lagged, and I couldn’t take one more thing. I saw that photo, and I had to say something. That picture wasn’t linked to body confidence. It wasn’t a #BodyConfidence or #LoveWhoYouAre. It was done in a slightly voyeuristic light, which I felt was a little inappropriate for young women to see. … I would hate for young women to feel they need to post certain photos in order to gain likes, retweets, favorites, and male attention.… I wasn’t slut-shaming. It’s not about body shaming.

On Posting Pictures in a Bikini:

I do it because it’s a body-confidence thing. I posted one in Mexico. I felt good, and I was wearing a bikini on a beach. It wasn’t me sexualizing myself. It was with a beautiful background. When I posted it, I knew that there would be a lot of young women looking. So I made sure that it was tasteful…. I get called prudish.

Chloe Moretz in Glamour June 2016

On Feminism:

The word feminism meant something very different when I was 13. I had four older brothers and a single mom, and we were providing for each other…. It was a collective effort between men and women. So for me, it was about familial equality….I was uneducated on the word feminism because I wasn’t an adult in a lot of ways. I hadn’t dealt with the amount of adversity that I deal with now, especially in business. I’ve traveled more. I’ve been part of different cultures and [heard about] what it means to be a minority young woman in this country and other countries. I’ve read more, experienced more. It’s kind of an evolution. So now, for me, feminism means equality for people of all genders, races, and economic situations. But at the same time, I never really thought that feminism was about hating men; I was afraid that people would view me that way.

WATCH: Chloe Moretz & Nicholas Hoult in New ‘Dark Places’ Trailer!

Posted on 1 min read 162 views

A brand-new trailer for the upcoming mystery thriller Dark Places has been released!

The movie is based on the book by best-selling author Gillian Flynn, and stars Charlize Theron, Chloe Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, and Christina Hendricks.

In the movie:

“Libby Day (Charlize Theron) was only seven years old when her mother and two sisters were brutally murdered in their rural Kansas farmhouse. In court, the traumatized child pointed the finger at her brother, Ben (Tye Sheridan), and her testimony put the troubled 16-year-old in prison for life. Twenty-five years later, a broke and desperate Libby has run through donations from a sympathetic public and royalties from her sensational autobiography, without ever moving past the events of that night.

When Libby accepts a fee to appear at a gathering of true-crime aficionados led by Lyle Wirth (Nicholas Hoult), she is shocked to learn most of them believe Ben is innocent and the real killer is still at large. In need of money, she reluctantly agrees to help them reexamine the crime by revisiting the worst moments of her life. But as Libby and Lyle dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding the murders, her recollections start to unravel and she is forced to question exactly what she saw—or didn’t see. As long-buried memories resurface, Libby begins to confront the wrenching truths that led up to that horrific night.”
