Demi Lovato Opens Up on Her Rocky Past: “I was a nightmare to work with.”

Posted on 2 min read 34 views

Demi Lovato has always been open about her troubles with bipolar disorder, an eating disorder, and substance abuse.

Now, the singer has opened up further about her past in a new interview with Refinery 29, where she reveals what she was like during her troubled times, and how she turned her life around.

On Her Former Self:

“‘Try to ground me — I pay your bills,’” Demi recalls telling her parents when they’d try and discipline her. “Prior to getting sober, I was one of those people who was like, I don’t give a fuck, whatever. And I used that as an excuse to do whatever I wanted. I was a nightmare to work with.”

When describing her former self, Demi calls herself: “Just bitchy, a cunt.”

Demi Lovato for Refinery 29

On Changing her Life:

“I had to learn the hard way that I can’t do parties anymore. Some people can go out and not be triggered, but that’s not the case for me.”

“I know [my life] sounds so boring, but I’ve come to a place where I’d rather be relaxed than get all dressed up and go to some party or club with people who don’t really care about my well-being at all.”

Demi Lovato for Refinery 29

On Resisting The Urge to Watch Amy Winehouse‘s documentary:

“To see white powder in a movie? To see someone shooting up? It’s too triggering. If I feel even 1% unsure that I’m in a place where I can watch it, then I just don’t do it.”

Demi Lovato for Refinery 29

On Using Social Media for Body Positivity:

“I’ve been doing this so long I literally laugh at the things people say. You’re not going to agree with everybody and you’re not going to please everybody.”

Demi Lovato for Refinery 29

On Confident and Cool for the Summer not hitting Number 1:

“I was really bummed about it because that’s what I was going for. I got to a point where I was like, Oh my god, it does not fucking matter. At the end of the day, I’m going to be on tour and I want to be performing songs on stage that I can sing my ass off to and really feel when I’m on stage. So now I have a much better sense of my music.”

Demi Lovato for Refinery 29

On Engagement Rumours:

“It’s nobody’s business but ours, and when it happens, it happens.”

Sophie Turner Shows Off her Sporty Side for SELF Magazine

Posted on 2 min read 40 views

Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner graces the new June 2016 issue of SELF magazine, where she dishes on her how she got in shape for X-Men: Apocalypse, the similarities between her characters, and how a healthy lifestyle has changed her.

On Growing up on the Game of Thrones Set:

“[It] makes you grow up faster. But it also ignites that playfulness within you.”

Sophie Turner Self Magazine

On Prepping for X-Men:

“I needed to get in shape—and quick!” Sophie says.

“During the shoot I went hard. And that hasn’t stopped.”

To get in shape, Sophie did full-body workouts for three months doing everything from hill sprints, kettlebells, resistance bands, and burpees: “It was all outside, around London, which was more fun than being cooped up in a gym. I need to do fun stuff that takes my mind off the fact that I’m working out.”

Sophie Turner Self Magazine

On Exercise and Eating Healthy:

“Exercise has made me feel more positive about my body, less self-conscious. I don’t know if I look any different, but I feel stronger, and I can do more, which is such a good feeling. It’s so liberating.”

Sophie Turner Self Magazine

On the Similarities Between her GoT and X-Men Characters and Herself:

“Both Jean and Sansa are strong characters with such great arcs. Neither starts out strong, but they find that power within them, whether literally or metaphorically.”

“I found a lot of parallels between Jean and myself psychologically. Her journey is trying to figure out who she is, surviving the hormones and the boys, which are loaded on top of the fact that she’s a superpowerful mutant. I haven’t had that last bit to deal with! But I’ve had the challenge of growing up and having horrible skin and all the things that make you feel uncomfortable as a teenager, and knowing that everyone can see it—because 50 percent of them point it out to you.”

You can read more from Sophie’s interview here. Also, be sure to pick up the new June 2016 issue of SELF to see her full feature!

X-Men Apocalypse hits theatres on May 27th.

Halsey Covers NYLON’s June/July Music Issue

Posted on 2 min read 45 views

Singer Halsey shows off a dark new hairstyle on the new June/July cover of NYLON magazine, where she opens up on her childhood, social media, and how success has changed her.

On Her Childhood:

“I went from being a little kid to, like, a very weathered adult in a year. I got kicked out of my house, I traveled the whole country by myself, I found out I had bipolar disorder, I dealt with a sexual assault.… That year was like Murphy’s Law, man.”

Halsey For Nylon June/July 2016

On Shaving her Head:

“I saw thousands of tweets from kids who were like, ‘Yeah, that’s it, I don’t want to be her fan anymore.’”

“Hair has also been a big indicator of racial issues in my life. It’s one of the ultimate symbolic struggles for women of color. Shaving my head was important to me because I needed to be able to prove that I could still love myself if I did it.”

Halsey For Nylon June/July 2016

On Social Media:

“There are some things I have the power to make a difference in, but people being mean on the internet is not one of them. If I stood up and turned my whole career into a fucking campaign to end cyberbullying, I would get cyberbullied for that.”

Halsey For Nylon June/July 2016

On How Success has Changed Her:

“My parents don’t know who the fuck I am anymore. I never did homework, my room was a fucking mess, I didn’t care if my clothes were dirty. I was the most loose, lazy, completely fluid, lucid gypsy woman. I just became such a, forgive me, but such an anal retentive this past year, because I got something that I was scared to lose.”

“I care about my shows so fucking much. If I play a show and it’s not the best show anyone has ever seen, it’s not good enough for me. I’m like that with everything. If I’m not the best person you’ve ever had sex with, we need to do it again, like, I need to fix it.”

Kendall Jenner Graces the June/July Issue of Harper’s Bazaar

Posted on 2 min read 45 views

Kendall Jenner shows off a classic red lip for the new cover of Harper’s Bazaar‘s June/July 2016 issue, where she models in a lying-down-only photoshoot and chats about her childhood and her off-duty style.

On her Childhood:

“For me, I don’t know any other way. We were brought up in this abnormal world, if that’s what you want to call it. I feel like a lot of people say that kids who grow up in that kind of world go crazy. But it has everything to do with how your parents raise you. I was raised so normally, or as normally as I could have been. It’s also a generational thing. I see my six-year-old nephew, and he’s on an iPad. It’s just what you grow up with.”

Kendall Jenner for Harper's Bazaar

On What Job She Wanted as a Kid:

“I’ve always loved animals. I rode horses for 10 years, so I thought I was going to be a professional horseback rider and then a vet. I used to play these vet video games.”

Kendall Jenner for Harper's Bazaar

On her Ambition:

“I am very ambitious. I love what I do, I love my job, and I’m OCD.”

Kendall Jenner for Harper's Bazaar

On her Everyday Style:

“Most days I don’t care what I wear. You’ll find me in yoga pants, a T-shirt, and sneakers almost every day. My job is to wear something nice when I work, so I enjoy doing it then. But when I don’t have to, I’d rather just wear something comfortable.”

Kendall Jenner for Harper's Bazaar

On the Paparazzi:

“Yes, they wait outside my house every single day. It’s so crazy to me because it’s stalking at this point. When I say every day, I’m not kidding. I don’t understand how that is legal. There should be some kind of Sunday off or something.”

“I’d rather someone around me be mean to them. [Laughs.] I’m always trying to be nice to them, but sometimes it’s hard because you’re human, and sometimes you have a bad day. Like if you’re getting into your car and you don’t say hi, all of a sudden you’re so mean. There is a balance, for sure.”

Meghan Trainor talks new album ‘Thank You’: “It’s more of the music that I enjoy”

Posted on 2 min read 35 views

With just one day to go until the release of Meghan Trainor‘s new album Thank You, the No singer has dished on what fans can expect from her second album in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“It’s more of the music that I enjoy,” she says. “I was afraid that I would be trapped as a doo-wop artist from that first album, so this one I wanted to prove that I can do more genres.”

Meghan revealed that her songs were inspired by pop songs from the late ’90s and early ’00s. She says that while writing her hit No, she thought: “What do I wish was still on the radio? And I was like, ‘*NSYNC, Destiny’s Child, Britney Spears.'”

As for her song written for her mom titled Mom, Meghan says:

“You know the Britney Spears song, ‘Lucky’? Where it’s like, a big bomb and then it has the, ‘And here she is, it’s Lucky!’ I was like, ‘I want one of those,'” she says. “So we called [my mom] up at work and I was just like, ‘I love you, I love you so much. Just tell me you love me’ and we recorded it and got it.'”

“I texted her after and she’s like, ‘Ugh! I hate you!'” she added. “‘Cause, you know, you hear your voice — on a phone call especially — and you’re like, ‘Is that what I sound like?’ So she said, ‘If this doesn’t make the album, that’s OK.’ I was like ‘Ma! It’s gonna be on there.'”

Later on this summer, Meghan will be hitting the road on her Untouchable Tour to perform for fans across North America – starting on July 21.

Meghan reveals that the tour will be: “bigger, with more dancers and new songs, new routines — and we’re jumping this time. We’re dancing a lot. It’s gonna be great, I can’t wait!”

Be sure to check out Meghan’s new album Thank You when it drops tomorrow (May 13)!
