Louis Tomlinson surprised fans today (Oct. 12) by releasing a brand new song!
The former One Direction member released the song, titled Just Like You, by writing a message to fans on Twitter, saying:
“So I wrote a song called Just Like You a few months ago. After a few conversations with the label I told them that I wanted to release it. My next single will be a bit later this year but I wanted to share this with you now. This is for you lot! #JustLikeYou. The song will go live on the usual platforms at midnight local time. NZ and Aus be ready. This is one of my favourites from the album. Conceptually I think it’s sums me up! This song is for you :)”
Just Like You is Louis’ first fully-solo song, and follows up his previous two collaborations, Just Hold On with Steve Aoki and Back to You with Bebe Rexha.
After abruptly parting ways with One Direction in March 2015, singer Zayn Malik has revealed that he still keeps in touch with his former bandmates and that everything is civil.
“We’re in touch,” Zayn said in a recent interview with US Weekly. “Everything is on a civil level. It’s not the way it used to be, obviously, because we were spending 24 hours a day in the band and now we’re growing as individual men, but we still check in.”
Zayn did reveal, however, that the member of the group he was never really close with was Harry Styles:
“To be honest, I never really spoke to Harry even when I was in the band,” he said. “So I didn’t really expect that much of a relationship with him.”
As for whether Zayn would be up for a 1D reunion, he said: “Who knows? I’ve said it before: Never say never.”
While Zayn’s former bandmates Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne both have kids now, Zayn has revealed that he doesn’t feel pressure to settle down and start a family.
“I don’t think things like that should be decided based on feeling pressure. When it’s the right time and place, hopefully that will happen. Who knows when that will be,” he said.
In the meantime, Zayn has been hard at work on his second album, which he says:
“We’ve got some big people working on stuff. There’s soulful R&B tunes, club tunes, some pop songs. It’s a progression. My writing’s grown and I feel like I’ve grown. I just wanted to get all of that in the album and give people some new music.”
If you’ve been looking forward to a One Direction reunion, don’t hold your breath just yet.
1D member Louis Tomlinson spoke about the group’s plans to reunite with Rolling Stone while promoting his new single Just Hold On, saying, “No one knows the answer right now. Everyone’s just enjoying a schedule that’s not as relentless and exploring solo projects.”
“I think that’s what it’s all about,” Louis said. “People love to write what they want to write but there’s no bitterness.”
“Liam and Louis were very funny and an absolute pleasure to work with,” the show’s co-executive producer Cherry Chevapravatdumrong told Entertainment Weekly. “Or, as the Directioner part of me would say, ‘OMG LILO I’M SCREAMING!’”
Be sure to tune into FOX on Sunday at 9PM to catch One Direction on Family Guy!
While the boys of One Direction may be on a break from making new music, fans will have a chance to hear their voices once more during their special guest appearance on the popular FOX animated television series Family Guy later this year.
EW has reported that the upcoming episode featuring 1D “centers on Chris running for homecoming king, [and] features the foursome — Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson — in a campfire scene with Stewie, who tells them a scary story involving non-skinny jeans.”
According to EW, only Liam and Louis have recorded lines for the episode, meaning that Niall and Harry’s characters won’t be speaking during their appearance.
“There are not a lot of shows that, in the same season, feature guest-star appearances by both Frank Sinatra, Jr. and One Direction,” executive producers Richard Appel and Steve Callaghan said in a statement. “And we really enjoyed their time with us, until we realized we were both old enough to be their fathers.”
The Family Guy episode featuring 1D is called Run, Chris, Run and will air this May on FOX.
“We just felt it was the right time. We wanted to give this album to the fans and then go and take a bit of time out. We didn’t make it into a big deal in our camp, but I think it was made into quite a big deal outside, like this is it. They’re a member down and they’re losing the plot — they don’t want to do a tour next year. But within what we were doing, that isn’t how we felt at all. We just felt that maybe we deserved a year off.”
While they may be on break, the boys all revealed that they look forward to having time to write music without deadline pressures during the break.

As they continue their On The Road Again Tour this summer, the boys from One Direction have been hard at work on their fifth album, which will bring fans a whole new sound.
In a recent interview with ET Online, the newly foursome band dished on what fans can expect from their new music.
“There’s a few different sounds on the album, not all the songs sound the same, like, same vibe. They are all kind of different,” said Niall Horan. “Couple of different guitars and drums. It’s a lot different than what we did before… but, it’s cool.”
Liam Payne added that the new music will still make the fans who love their old songs happy: “There’s a lot of old school vibes as well,” he said. “I said before that it was quite Oasis-y but I was thinking about one song that I’ve been playing… it’s very diverse I think,” he added, describing the mix of songs as “eclectic.”
“No collaborations so far,” Niall said when asked about any possible appearances on the album from outside artists. “It’s still in the making so we’re not there yet.”
