Just a couple weeks ago, Diego Gomes was named the new winner of YTV’s The Next Star at the big finale in Toronto. Diego and the rest of the top six – Madi, Brandon, Victoria, Mimoza, and Isabelle – performed for a packed crowd at Canada’s Wonderland where fans voted for who they wanted to be The Next Star!

We had a chance to chat with Diego before and after the show, and found out how he was feeling before going on stage, and what his plans for the future are!

So was Diego nervous before the big show? “I’m not nervous at all, the bigger the crowd, the better I perform.” Diego revealed. Diego also dished on how he loves hearing the crowd cheering for him – it’s his favorite part of performing! “My favorite thing about this competition was probably having a big fan base to support you, and getting to perform infront of huge audiences.”

Backstage after the show, Diego was stoked that he had won the competition. “I’m crying, I’m so happy, I’m speechless. I honestly don’t know what to say, I’ve never felt this before. It’s crazy!”

Diego also admitted that he plans on staying in touch with the rest of the top six, after they had become close friends. “They’re amazing friends, so I don’t wanna lose them.”

Where does Diego plan on going with his music career? “All the way up!” he said. “I think I’m gonna do like, Shawn Desman kinda stuff. I think that’s what I’m gonna get into. Maybe a little bit of rock touch to it.”
