Nick Jonas Talks Going Solo & Miley Cyrus in New Interview

Posted on 1 min read 61 views

After leaving his Disney and boy-band days behind him, Nick Jonas has opened up on what it’s been like finding success as a solo artist.

“The biggest compliment is when people hear my music and don’t believe it’s me,” Nick says in his new interview with I-D Magazine, talking about life after The Jonas Brothers.

“Every day there’s an element of risk. How are people going to react? I don’t put any pressure on myself. There’s an acceptance for me as a solo artist, as a man. But if people don’t like me, I’m not crushed.”

Nick Jonas

When writing his solo album Nick Jonas, which features his hit songs Chains and Jealous, Nick revealed that he looks to artists like Frank Ocean, Jhené Aiko and The Weeknd for inspiration.

“I also look up to Kanye and Lady Gaga,” he says. “She makes an impact without being afraid of anything. Unapologetic artistry is the best. You respect the people who are moving and shaking and not listening to anybody’s naysaying. That’s the kind of artist I hope to be,” he says. “With the Brothers, it wasn’t always very human. Now I say what I want.”

During his interview, Nick also spoke about former Disney colleague and ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus, saying: “I’m blown away by her, she’s fearless. Disney was our high school. We all dated and broke each other’s…” he pauses. “There’s a lot of life lived between all of us.”

The Wrecking Ball singer was all-smiles as she arrived at the event at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, dressed in a vibrant pink floral-themed outfit. During her acceptance speech, Miley said:

“The first day that I got to visit you all is a day that I never will forget,” she said. “And that’s because given the opportunity to sit in one of the support groups I walked away with a feeling of self-love that I have never been able to even give myself before. Because, you know my life until that point, I was subconsciously convinced that I had to label myself. Because everything in our life has to have a name. Everything in our life is something but I’m not a thing. We’re not a thing. We’re humans with feelings that change just like this weather — which we’ve gotta do something about, and I’m not alone.”

“I was so moved when I first heard someone sitting beside me say, ‘Some days I wake up and I’m the masculine version of myself and some days I wake up and I’m the feminine version of myself, and that’s totally okay. And the LGBT Center had the key to the lock on my cage and they set me free.”

Miley was also joined at the event by The Happy Hippie Foundation, her non-profit organization that helps support the LGBT youth.

Miley Cyrus Upsets Officials after Twerking on Mexican Flag

Posted on 1 min read 31 views

S

inger Miley Cyrus may be facing legal troubles after twerking on a Mexican flag during her Bangerz concert in Monterrey, Mexico on Tuesday (September 16).

The controversial star was performing her hit song 23 while wearing a fake booty, when a dancer used the flag to ‘floss’ the prop.

TMZ‘s Harvey Levin revealed to Ryan Seacrest that the incident has started a new investigation, as a result of the stern laws against tainting “Homeland Symbols” in Mexico.

“The law says that you can’t desecrate a flag and that the punishment is not just a fine,” Levin said in an interview on Friday morning, stating that “the crime of desecration is a $1,200 fine and “36 hours in jail.””

“The Congress in the state where this happened is recommending that she be fined and/or jail. Now, they have to make that decision. Miley is going to be long gone, so I don’t know that anything is going to come of it,” Levin continued. “But they’re really pissed off. I’ve got to say, you know you’re waving a red flag in front of a bull when you do something like this on a flag — or have somebody do it for you — when you’re in a foreign country.”

While nothing has come of it yet, Miley is still in Mexico with her latest Bangerz tour stop being in Mexico city tonight.

Icona Pop Talk Miley Cyrus: “She’s such an amazing girl”

Posted on 1 min read 25 views

Swedish pop duo icona Pop have recently joined 21-year-old singer Miley Cyrus on the road, as they opened for the star on her Bangerz tour.

After spending some time with the controversial artist, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo of Icona Pop had nothing but positive things to say about Miley.

“She’s such an amazing girl. Super down-to-earth and caring,” the girls told E News. “It was such a good vibe [on tour] and she’s so hardworking. She really inspired us. She’s really really cool.”

Miley Cyrus

“I think the best thing with her is that she grew up in a family that was kind of famous so the best part about her is that she knows how to combine fun with work as well,” they said. “She would never risk a show by going out the night before but if she was free the night after, she would definitely go out and have a good time.”

“She sound checked every day,” thy added. “She came and danced in our dressing room…she’s a crazy girl and she’s such a lovely [person] and she’s smart…She’s crazy and she’s fun but that’s her expressing herself on stage and in her music. But she’s really a smart woman and everything on stage…was her idea. She’s the boss of everything and it’s just very inspiring to be around someone who’s having a lot of fun because she’s doing stuff her way and with her friends and her crew, but in a very professional way.”
