Based on the best-selling phenomenon, “The Help” stars Emma Stone (Easy A) as Skeeter, Viola Davis (Doubt) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk.
The actress of The Help became friends with this movie, and confessed it was an all-girl bonding experience, with the help of an initial meeting with ‘a cornucopia of drinks’.
Emma Stone said the book was ‘incredibly helpful‘ as she prepared for the character of the ambitious writer Skeeter.
“Since it’s based on a book, I felt so lucky. When I read a book, it’s like I know those characters and my interpretation of those characters so well. I’ve never gotten to be in a movie version of a book before, so Skeeter felt pretty fleshed out for me as a reader…there’s 120 short pages in a script; there’s 444 long pages in ‘The Help’. It was just so incredibly helpful because I didn’t know too many people who were 23 in 1963.”
With an all-female cast, this inspirational drama is an early favorite for this year’s Oscars so you don’t want to miss it. The Help hits theaters on Wednesday (August 10th)!
