Teen Wolf actor Tyler Posey recently opened up about the hard times he’s faced over the past year, after his mother passed away in December 2014, just a few months after he ended his engagement to his long-time girlfriend in October.
“This has been the hardest year of my life,” Tyler says in his interview for People‘s newest issue.
Posey had proposed to girlfriend Seana Gorlick in 2013 after a decade of being “in love,” but the engagement had ended (under circumstances Posey prefers to keep private) by October 2014.
“I still really miss her,” Tyler says of his ex Seana Gorlic, who he dated for ten years before proposing in 2013. “I can’t believe I have an ex-fiancée.”
But losing his mother – who died at age 55 last December after a four-year battle with breast cancer – proved even more devastating.
As for losing his mother after a four-year battle with Cancer, Tyler says: “She was my best friend. She was the glue that held our family together.”
Even though Tyler is still close with his father and brother Jesse, since the loss of his mother he admits: “I’ve lost my sense of family.”
Struggling through his losses, Tyler admits to have struggled with depression. He says: “Whenever I have too much downtime, I start to get sad.”
Tyle has kept busy filming hit hit MTV series Teen Wolf, where he has also started to help produce and direct select episodes throughout the new seasons.
“Keeping busy keeps me sane,” he says. “I want to put everything in my career.”
This past year “has really changed me,” he continues. “But I like who I’ve become. I’m growing every single day. After everything I’ve been through, I’ve realized I can do anything I put my mind to. And I want to do it all.”
You can catch Tyler in Teen Wolf on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.
