Stephen Amell Talks Four-Way Arrow Crossover: “It was hard enough when it was two shows”

During his downtime from filming his hit CW series Arrow, actor Stephen Amell has been hard at work promoting his new movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

The actor was spotted out in Philadelphia on Thursday (June 2), where he greeted fans at a screening of the new film at the United Artists Riverview Plaza.

During his latest press rounds, Stephen spoke to MTV about Arrow‘s upcoming season, and the CW’s plan for a giant crossover episode featuring Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

“They have to show me how they’re going to do this magical four-show crossover,” Stephen says. “It was hard enough when it was two shows and mixing in Legends a little bit. To make it four shows? I’m dumbfounded.”

Stephen adds that even though there are new superheroes joining the Arrow world, he wants to make sure the show keeps doing what it does best in Season 5:

“I’ve been thinking a lot about this, and I think the writers have as well,” he says. “We had a discussion, and I said, ’Look man. Arrow was set up as a very specific thing, and it’s up to us to do what we do. And what we do, we do better than anyone else on TV.’ Part of the price of success is that we’ve had to introduce other shows. We can always get around new powers and people from other planets, but it is important that when all that dust settles that we are focussing on what we do well.”

As for shifting gears from Oliver Queen to his new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character Casey, Stephen says:

“I have a wonderful time playing Oliver, and I owe so much to that role and to that show, but I had a blast playing Casey, simply because he does always seem to be having fun. And he’s an optimist, which is a welcome change.”
