Shia LaBeouf brings ‘Borg/McEnroe’ to the Toronto International Film Festival

Actor Shia LaBeouf was spotted in Toronto on Thursday (Sept. 7), as he promoted his new movie Borg/McEnroe at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.

Shia first appeared alongside co-stars Stellan Skarsgard and Sverrir Gudnason for a press conference at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, where they chatted about their new sports film before attending a screening of the movie later on in the evening.

Borg/McEnroe is a sports biopic that focuses on the famous rivalry between tennis players John McEnroe (Shia) and Björn Borg (Sverrir Gudnason) at the 1980 Wimbledon Championships.

“I think McEnroe was a tactician, he added something different to the game,” Shia said about his character during the press conference. “He used rage as a tactic to throw people off, he manufactured his intensity to hype himself up. In that way he was an artist, it was very thought-through. [Playing McEnroe] was quite cathartic.”
