The highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame movie is finally here, and its opening weekend is shaping up to be bigger than ever.
After opening in theatres on April 26, the latest Marvel blockbuster set a new record for biggest opening day. According to CNN, the film grossed $156.7 million at the domestic box office on its first day. Disney is also said to be “cautiously projecting” the film’s opening weekend in the $300 million range.
The film follows up Avengers: Infinity War, and follows the remaining Avengers (Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Bruce Banner, and Tony Stark) as they embark on a mission to bring back their lost teammates for a final showdown with Thanos.
Avengers: Infinity War made $106 million during its opening day in 2018, and had the highest-grossing opening weekend in history after bringing in $258 million.
The last movie to break the record was Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which brought in $119 million during its opening day in 2015.
