At the event, Nick and Emma joined some of their co-stars for the film’s special screening, including Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and Pitbull.
“So much fun at the Ugly Dolls premiere today!” Nick Jonas shared on Instagram after the premiere. “So happy to be a part of this film, and can’t wait for you all to see this movie on May 3! Such an important message and some great music. @uglydolls”
The new STX Film is based on the ‘UglyDolls’ toys and follows UglyDoll Moxy (voiced by Kelly Clarkson) and her UglyDoll friends as they travel to the town of Perfection — a town where everyone is perfect. Through their adventures in Perfection, the UglyDolls ultimately learn that being yourself is more important than being perfect.
In UglyDolls, Nick voices Lou, a perfect doll that recruits and trains other dolls for perfection so they can find a child in the real world. Emma Roberts voices Wedgehead, a new citizen of Uglyville, while Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX, and Lizzo all make up the perfect dolls group, SpyGirls.
“This journey that Lou goes on and telling that story of accepting your imperfections, and accepting others and yourself, it’s so incredibly relevant right now,” Nick said on the importance of the movie in a recent interview.
Along with voicing the film, many of the UglyDoll cast also appear on the movie’s official soundtrack, which was released on Friday, April 26. Nick has two songs on the album, The Ugly Truth and The Uglier Truth, while Bebe Rexha sings Girl in the Mirror, and Why Don’t We perform the track Don’t Change. You can listen to the full soundtrack below!
UglyDolls will hit theatres this Friday, May 3. Nick will hit the stage in Las Vegas this coming week for the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, where he will join the Jonas Brothers to perform their #1 hit song, Sucker. You can catch their performance during the show’s broadcast on Wednesday, May 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
