Stars hit the yellow carpet in New York City on Thursday (May 2) for the New York premiere of Pokémon Detective Pikachu.
Among those spotted attending the premiere were Suki Waterhouse and Kathryn Newton, who both star in the new live action movie, and Blake Lively, who attended the event in support of her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
The movie takes place in Ryme City, a city populated by both humans and Pokémon, and follows 21-year-old former Pokémon trainer Tim Goodman as he tries to solve the mystery of his father’s disappearance with the help of a talking Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds), a reporter named Lucy Stevens (Kathryn Newton), and her Psyduck.
Kathryn recently spoke about how much fun she had working on this movie, saying:
“That’s what was so fun about making this movie. We really got to use our imaginations. We were acting with nothing, but we know Pokémon. We know what they’re like; we know their personalities, and because of growing up with Pokémon—watching the anime, playing the games—we just wanted to do a really good job.”
Pokémon Detective Pikachu hits theatres on May 10, 2019.
