BTS may soon become fully-fledged members of the Recording Academy!
According to Reuters, the members of the K-pop group — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — along with the chief executive of their Bit Hit Entertainment record label, Bang Si-Hyuk, received an invite to join the coveted Recording Academy this week as a part of the Academy’s efforts to diversify the group that chooses the Grammy Awards.
BTS are just some of the 1,3000 artists, writers, and industry professionals to receive invites this year, and if they accept, will be eligible to cast votes for the 2020 Grammy Award, which, the Recording Academy called “the highest honors in the music business.”
The group attended the Grammy awards for the first time this year as presenters. Their album Love Yourself 轉 ‘Tear’ was also nominated this year for “Best Recording Package” with the Art Director from HuskyFox, Doohee Lee.
Over the past few years, the Recording Academy has been reportedly taking steps to diversify its members, to expand their membership beyond their older male-dominated majority.
Reuters reports that 49 percent of those invited to join the Recording Academy this week were women, and 51 percent were under age 40.
