Actress Storm Reid recently sat down with Teen Vogue for a special Sweet 16 edition of the magazine, where she discussed her career and her latest projects, including the upcoming HBO series Euphoria.
In the new HBO show, Euphoria, Storm takes on the role of Gia, the younger sister of Rue (played by Zendaya). who overdoses on heroin and is found by her Gia on her bedroom floor.
”It’s a tough conversation, but it’s a conversation that needs to be had,” Storm said on the show touching on topics like drug issues, and how that affects her character.
“As an actress, it’s difficult. Rue and Gia are both trying to find themselves and figure themselves out. And Gia is really internalizing what Rue is doing to her, and Rue is internalizing what she’s doing to Gia,” Storm said.
“So there’s hurt and pain there, and Gia starts to not make the best decisions. On a personal level, it’s not anything that’s new. [The opioid crisis] is something that’s even affected people in my family, so it was something that I could draw emotion from, and I know how it makes me feel.”
During her interview, Storm also talked about some of the more impactful roles she’s had during her career, including A Wrinkle in Time and 12 Years a Slave.
“My big breakout role was Wrinkle, but the first big production and set was probably 12 Years a Slave,” she said. “Even though I was only in that [film] for, like, five minutes, it was very impactful for me. I had never been on a production that big. It was a huge step into what I’m doing now.”
As for the support Storm receives from her family and friends, she said:
“They’re…they’re really proud of me. And that feels good. My mom has always said, if I didn’t want to do it [acting] anymore then I could just quit, but I haven’t wanted to. I feel like that’s everyone’s outlook. As long as I’m happy, that’s what matters to them.”

✨This cover means a lot to me. Yes, I have been on a previous @TeenVogue cover celebrating ”Young Hollywood” which was just as much a privilege but to be on this special edition cover celebrating OUR SWEET 16 is surreal. To have such a vital publication support and uplift me and so many others is something I'll forever be grateful to be a part of. Thank you for the whole team that made this happen. And to Mrs. @lpeopleswagner I have so much love for you. I appreciate your support and dedication to make sure people are truly represented in this magazine, no matter what. ✨ ——— Photographer: @micaiahcarter Stylist: @jasonbolden Hair: @takishahair Makeup: @rennobuko ❣️
