The Jonas Brothers discuss their breakup on SiriusXM: “We were able to kind of hit the break button when it was most needed”

Fresh off the release of their new album Happiness Begins, the Jonas Brothers were spotted dropping by the SiriusXM studios on Friday (June 7), where they sat down with SiriusXM Hits 1’s the Morning Mash Up to talk about their album, their new documentary, and more.

During their interview, the brothers revealed what it was like to come back together again after a long break, which at the time was what was most needed.

“The biggest difference — we all went and lived separate lives from each other,” said Joe.

“Imagine your sibling being by you all the time, every day, same group of friends,” he said. “After a while, that’s going to drive you crazy. For us, we were able to kind of hit the break button when it was most needed before it kind of became crazy and bad for us and toxic.”

“But we went apart, lived separate lives, whether it was creatively or personally, and coming back together having so many stories to tell in our music and ten years worth of songs that we felt like we wanted to be able to release and now finally combining those into 14 and then releasing them today, it’s been an amazing experience.”

As for whether the brothers were able to pick right back up where they left off, Nick revealed that finding their chemistry again was helped mostly by the process of filming their new documentary Chasing Happiness.

“It took time. It took a second to figure out the chemistry,” Nick said. “But the other thing was that we were shooting a documentary first, which I think we’ve talked about before… that was kind of the time for us to re-find some chemistry.”

“We didn’t approach any of this with the intention to get back together right away. The thought was, let’s make the doc, let’s tell our story, let’s see what happens, whether it’s one show, maybe a song,” he continued.

“But in that time I think we did some very necessary healing, which some of that’s in the doc, you can see it, but you know finding the chemistry was easier because we had about a year-long runway to figure it out before Sucker came out and the whole thing started.”

“But now, here we are, I think we all, we’re very happy with the way things have gone and the fact that we took all the time that we needed and did it the right way.”

During their interview, Nick, Kevin, and Joe also talked about how their parents found out about Joe’s Las Vegas wedding, their new documentary, and more. Check out clips from their interview below!
